Re: Roy Cook: Eco hero - its official!
Congratulations Roy,
I am well aware of the 'hard slog' you and Irma and the boys have contributed to achieve the praise Sedlescombe is rightly receiving.
In 1997 I arrived at your vineyard as a WWOOF volunteer with a few pre-conceived notions of the worth of English (Pommy) wine. Being from the renowned Hunter Valley region of New South Wales in Australia, I had come to accept that our local produce was comparable to, if not better than, any of the Continental or South African imports we had occasion to sample. I never expected to be challenged as I was by the complexity or depth of the wines you produced at Sedlescombe.
I learnt a great deal during my stay at Sedlescombe, apart from an appreciation for subtle and sincere wines, which has enriched my life since [and Roy, I took the principle of the 'Zen of Pruning' to heart].
So, I raise my glass to you all: sadly, not a Sedlescombe wine, but a nice drop of Red from the local McGuigan label, which is admirable in itself.
My best wishes for continuing success to you all.
Allan Black
p.s. nice work Alex
